Rebecca Harrison
Unity Charity - Ambassador

Rebecca Harrison is a community organizer and arts advocate, and currently holds the position of Executive Director at Unity Charity–a national organization that uses Hip Hop art forms to help young people develop resilience, and...

...supports the development of emerging Hip Hop artists across Canada. During Rebecca’s leadership, a position she took on from Unity’s founder in 2018, Unity has strengthened and grown its artist training program, expanded it’s permanent programming beyond it’s homebase–the GTA–into Halifax, Nova Scotia, and guided the organization’s strategic planning and stabilization initiatives. Leading a team of 15 staff and a roster of 65 artists, Rebecca aspires to create pathways and opportunities for young people and emerging artists through Unity’s work for years to come. Prior to her tenure at Unity Charity, Rebecca’s career has been spent working with and for young and emerging artists, artist educators and arts organizations, a professional path inspired by her own deep connection to art and music. Starting her career at record label/artist management company, Coalition Music, Rebecca quickly moved from intern, to manager of the company’s charitable arm, TEMPO. In this role, she delivered music and music business education to youth facing multiple barriers across Toronto and on First Nations reservations in Ontario. Alongside the City of Toronto, she then coordinated Arts Lab, a pilot project that provided mentorship and support to artists from underserved communities seeking careers in the arts. Prior to Unity, Rebecca managed programs at Business for the Arts, where she dedicated herself to scaling mentorship programs for arts organizations into communities across Canada. Rebecca has been a musician since her childhood, and attributes much of her own resilience, determination and sense of community to the lifelong relationship she holds with her own art and creative practice. As is evident in her career choices, she is dedicated to ensuring that young people and artists of all backgrounds have equal opportunity to enjoy art in their lives, so that it may provide healing, community, economic sustainability, and direction, as it has for her.
